The seven Hermetic Principles

    I accidentally came across or perhaps stumbled upon them through divine intervention. Spiritualism to me is a very personal and subjective journey and there are many principles available to us. The seven Hermetic Principles is one framework for understanding the nature of reality and our place within it. I found many similarities with the teaching from Gita. However, personally, I believe there are no inherently better or worse principles. Lessons are repeated until we learn from them, and we often encounter the same truths in different forms again and again until they are understood.

    So here it goes the seven principles:

    The Principle of Correspondence reveals that there are similarities and connections between different levels of existence. For example, your body consists of various systems like the respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems. While each system has unique functions, they interact and work together to maintain your overall well-being.

    This principle also applies to our relationships with others. Interactions and connections form the basis of our relationships. The energy you invest in your relationships corresponds to the quality of the connections you form.

    Moreover, the Principle of Correspondence extends beyond individual experiences. It can be observed in nature, society, and scientific discoveries. Universal patterns, such as planetary orbits or atomic structures, demonstrate this principle. Recognizing these connections fosters a deeper understanding of the world, helping you make sense of complex concepts and relationships.

    By paying attention to patterns and similarities, you can uncover meaningful connections between seemingly unrelated things.

    Embracing the Principle of Correspondence allows you to navigate life with a broader perspective, gaining valuable insights along the way. Seek connections and patterns in the world around you, recognizing the interconnectivity of everything. Reflect on how your actions impact others and the environment, striving for harmony and balance in your interactions.

    The Principle of Vibration suggests that everything in the universe, including sound, light, energy, thoughts, and emotions, is in a constant state of vibration.

    Imagine being at a concert where your favorite band starts playing an energetic and upbeat song. As the music fills the air, you can feel the rhythm pulsating through your body, creating a sense of excitement and joy. This illustrates how vibrations in the form of sound can evoke specific feelings and emotions.

    Similarly, consider how colors can affect your mood. Bright and vibrant colors like yellow or orange can energize and uplift you, while calm and soothing colors like blue or green can bring relaxation and tranquility. The varying vibrations of light in different colors directly impact your emotional state.

    The Principle of Vibration also applies to thoughts and emotions. Negative thoughts and emotions can create a low and heavy vibration, affecting our overall mood and outlook. Conversely, positive thoughts and emotions generate a higher and lighter vibration, leading to a more positive and uplifting state of being.

    Understanding this principle helps you become more aware of the energy and vibrations around you. By intentionally choosing positive thoughts, surrounding yourself with uplifting sounds and colors, and engaging in activities that resonate with your values, you can raise your vibrational frequency. This has a profound impact on your well-being, enabling you to cultivate a more positive and fulfilling life.

    So, whether you’re enjoying music, admiring a beautiful sunset, or reflecting on your thoughts and emotions, remember the Principle of Vibration. Recognize how energy and vibrations shape your experiences and influence your state of being. Embrace the idea of growth, remain open to learning and adapting, and engage in activities that align with your values, bringing you joy and fulfillment.

    The Principle of Polarity states that everything in the universe has two opposing poles or extremes. These opposites exist in various aspects of life, including emotions, situations, and personal traits. For example, happiness represents the positive pole, where you feel joy, contentment, and positivity. On the other hand, sadness represents the negative pole, characterized by sorrow, grief, and negativity. Experiencing one helps us understand and appreciate the other. Going through sadness or disappointment can make us value moments of happiness and understand their significance.

    The Principle of Polarity teaches us that opposites coexist and complement each other. It reminds us that challenges and difficult times often provide opportunities for growth and learning. We have the power to shift our focus from the negative pole to the positive pole, enabling us to navigate life with resilience and optimism.

    So, when you face a challenging situation or experience negative emotions, remember the Principle of Polarity. Embrace the understanding that these opposites are natural parts of life’s journey. By recognizing and appreciating the contrasting aspects of life, you can develop resilience, inner strength, and the ability to find balance in the face of challenges. Accept and integrate the dualities and opposites present in life, understanding that they can lead to growth and transformation. Embrace both the light and dark aspects of yourself and others, cultivating empathy and compassion. Recognize that others also face their own struggles and extend understanding towards them.

    The Principle of Rhythm states that everything in the universe follows a natural ebb and flow, a rhythm or pattern of movement.  Throughout the year, we experience the cycle of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, each with its unique qualities. Spring brings growth and renewal, summer represents abundance and vitality, autumn marks a transition with falling leaves and cooler temperatures, and winter is a time of rest and dormancy, characterized by cold weather and a slower pace in nature.

    These seasonal rhythms not only impact the environment but also influence our lives. During summer, we feel more energetic and engage in outdoor activities. On the other hand, winter may be a time for reflection, rest, and cozy indoor pursuits.

    The Principle of Rhythm also applies to our personal lives. Happiness and motivation may come and go, and there are times when we feel sadness or lack of motivation. Relationships, too, have their own rhythms, with ups and downs, moments of closeness, and periods of distance.

    Understanding the Principle of Rhythm allows us to navigate life with greater ease and acceptance. When faced with challenges or difficult times, we can remind ourselves that they are part of the natural rhythm of life.  By embracing the rhythms and cycles of life, we can flow with them instead of resisting or fighting against them.

    So, the next time you find yourself facing obstacles or going through a tough period, remember the Principle of Rhythm. Acknowledge that life has its natural ebb and flow. Embrace the different seasons and rhythms, both in nature and in your personal life. Trust that challenging times will pass, giving rise to new opportunities. By aligning yourself with the rhythm of life, you can find balance, adaptability, and a greater sense of harmony. Practice self-care, recognizing the importance of rest and rejuvenation. Learn to navigate the seasons of life with grace and acceptance.

    The Principle of Cause and Effect states that every action or event in the universe has a cause and will result in an effect.  For example, let’s say you have an important exam coming up, and you haven’t been studying regularly. Your lack of preparation is the cause in this situation. When the day of the exam arrives, the effect is that you might struggle and perform poorly, resulting in a lower grade or feeling disappointed with your results.

    On the other hand, if you consistently study and prepare well for the exam, your dedication and effort become the cause. As a result, you are likely to perform better and achieve a higher grade, leading to success and satisfaction with your results.

    The Principle of Cause and Effect applies to various aspects of life, teaching us that our choices and actions have consequences. It’s important to note that this principle is not about blaming or judging ourselves or others. Instead, it encourages us to be aware of the power of our choices and actions, empowering us to take responsibility for our lives and make decisions that align with our goals and values.

    By understanding the Principle of Cause and Effect, we become more mindful of our actions and their potential outcomes. We can make conscious choices that lead to positive effects in our lives. So, when you are faced with a decision or contemplating your actions, remember the principle of cause and effect. Consider the potential consequences of your choices and strive to make choices that align with your goals and values. Take responsibility for your actions and cultivate mindfulness, creating positive impacts in the world around you.

    The Principle of Gender suggests that everything in the universe possesses masculine and feminine qualities, regardless of gender. Consider the example of a seed and a plant. The seed embodies the feminine aspect, holding the potential for growth and new life with qualities such as nurturing, receptivity, and creative potential. The plant represents the masculine aspect, symbolizing strength, expansion, and expression as it reaches for the sun and spreads its leaves and flowers.

    Both the seed and the plant are vital for the continuity of life, harmonizing and relying on each other in a balanced relationship.

    This principle applies to individuals too, as each individual possesses masculine and feminine qualities irrespective of their gender. Masculine qualities may include assertiveness, logic, and analytical thinking, while feminine qualities encompass intuition, compassion, and nurturance. Recognizing and embracing these aspects within ourselves allows for a sense of wholeness and equilibrium.

    It’s important to note that the Principle of Gender doesn’t enforce conformity to societal expectations of gender roles. Instead, it emphasizes acknowledging and honoring the diverse qualities within ourselves and others. By embracing both our masculine and feminine qualities, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and foster healthy relationships.

    The Principle of Gender invites you to explore and embrace the various aspects within yourself. Appreciate the qualities of both masculinity and femininity, recognizing their contribution to your unique identity. Embrace your strengths and express your emotions. Cultivate compassion and assertiveness. By integrating these qualities, you can develop a balanced and authentic sense of self.
